7 Gender-Neutral Kids Birthday Party Themes We Love

Birthday parties are a lot of work. From planning to decorating, there are a lot of details to keep in mind. And not to mention the food and drinks!

But if you’re looking for some inspiration on how to throw an awesome birthday party for your kids, you’re in the right place!

These gender-neutral kids party ideas are themes all kids love, making it easy for you to reuse decorations for another child next year (yes, please!) or do a joint birthday party with a boy and girl.

7 Gender-Neutral Kids Birthday Party Themes We Love

1. Party Animals Theme

Bring the zoo home with a fun animal-themed party. Think giraffes, zebras, elephants, and tigers, or any wild animals your kids love. Decorate with green streamers and large green leaves for a look deep within the jungle!

Aaaand party animals love to jump around, so consider adding a bounce house to your jungle party, complete with our wild animal hoppers: The Nelman and The Elle.

2. Farm Theme

What kid doesn’t love a barnyard bash? Enjoy all the fun of a farm party–without any of the smells! Serve on-theme snacks like pigs in a blanket and rice krispie “haybales” with flavored milks.

Plus, get all the kids jumping with our cow hoppers–The Clarabelle and The Gertie!

3. Happy Camper Theme

Throw a cheerful camping party for your little one, complete with tents and s’mores! Get outdoorsy in your backyard, or bring it inside by decorating with fake trees, logs, and tents. You can do fun camping activities like a scavenger hunt, collecting “sticks,” and more!

4. Space Mission Theme

Throw an out-of-this-world party with a space themed birthday party! You can easily customize your party’s name by adding your child’s age to the mission number (i.e. Jacob’s Space Mission 5 or Josie’s Space Mission 3). You can even incorporate Buzz Lightyear figurines and decorations to this party.

Our soft playland The Moon & Back is a perfect addition to this space-tacular birthday.

5. Carnival Party Theme

Have a child who loves the circus? Bring back memories of the fair with bright red and yellow decorations, and yummy treats like corndogs, lemonade, and cotton candy. You can also include super-simple carnival games like ring toss or pick-a-duck.

Book our Puddle Jumper bounce house for extra carnival fun!

6. Pajama Party Theme

We love this party idea can be as simple or elaborate as you want it! Invite kids to wear their PJs to your party, or purchase matching PJ sets for the whole crew. This is a great party for the morning hours, and you can create a fun pancake station with whipped topping, sprinkles, fruit loops, and so much more.

7. Art Party Theme

Unleash your inner artists with an art-themed birthday party! Set up painting and coloring stations, or get creative making crafts as a group. Your activity also doubles as a take-home favor for the kids.

Choosing a flexible birthday party theme like these will make it easy to reuse your party theme or host a joint party for children with different interests!

5 Places to Host a Kids Birthday Party This Winter

If you’re looking for a place to host your kid’s birthday party this winter, we’ve got some great ideas for you.

Bounce houses and playland rentals from Party Baby Seattle are a great way to get your kids active while keeping them entertained for hours. But what if it’s cold outside? You can’t exactly set up a bounce house inside … right?

Actually, you can! We offer a variety of inflatable bounce house sizes, so we can accommodate a variety of space sizes. This post will give you suggestions to find the perfect space for your upcoming party, while keeping everyone warm and happy.

Top 5 Indoor Spaces to Throw a Party This Winter

Check out the top 5 areas we’d recommend throwing a kids party this winter:

1. Living Room

It may be obvious, but your home is the easiest and most convenient place to host a party. We commonly set up in living rooms, and guests move their couches and all other furniture out of the room for the day. This gives you more room for kids to play and a larger space for the equipment, as well as minimizes the risk of someone bumping their head on your glass end table, for example. An unfinished basement is also a great option because of the large space available. As long as it’s a flat, dry, clean surface, we’re good to go. If your home can’t accommodate even our smallest jumpers and playlands, consider the home of a close family or friend. We do all the set-up and clean-up, so hosting work is minimal.

2. Heated Garage

If you have a heated garage that doubles as a rec room, this is a perfect space to set up a birthday party bash in the winter. These spaces are especially easy to navigate as a standard double stall garage accommodates one or our playlands and small bounce house. While you may need a jacket on while you watch the kiddos, they will appreciate a cooler space while they run and jump for hours. Just make sure your garage floor is clean and dry for party day so there are no slips.

3. Community Center

Your community center is a great place to host a birthday party as they often have large rooms or gyms with plenty of space to set up your rented equipment. If you can’t reserve your own private room, some gyms are able to partition off part of the space so you can still have some separation from the general public. We recommend making signage for your party that you can put up so guests know where to go and others understand it’s a private event. Just inquire with management about reserving a space for your party and what rules they have.

4. Church

Churches are a unique and often overlooked space for hosting a kids birthday party. Most churches have large gathering rooms or basement education spaces that sit empty on Saturdays. While they aren’t in the business of renting out their space, they may be open to letting you use the building for a small fee or free will donation, especially if you are a member. And again, a bonus is that most churches have a kitchen and tables for you to prep, serve, or clean up if you serve a meal. Inquire with the office secretary about renting out a space and what rules they may have.

5. Event Space

If you’re looking for a more private & elegant place to host your party, consider what event spaces are in your area. They may have discounted rental rates for off-season or slow times (think Sunday afternoons in January, for example). If there’s a restaurant attached, you may be able to work out a deal for both using the space and ordering food. Contact the venue to discuss rental options and be sure to read through their contract.

Renting from Party Baby makes throwing a kids birthday party so easy, no matter what the weather is like outside. Our bounce houses and gated playlands are also a great way to keep kids together and safe, while also ensuring the spaces are clean and sanitized. We also have liability coverage so your site host can rest easy knowing that if someone were to get hurt, we have insurance.

How to Prepare Your Space for a Bounce House or Soft Play Package

You may be wondering, does my yard have what it takes to host a bounce house or soft play package from Party Baby? Should I rent out a space at the local park? What do I need to do before they arrive to set it up? We’ve got all the details here on how you can prepare for your dream event!

We Can Set Up Just About Anywhere!

Here are some creative places we’ve set up our bounce houses and soft play rentals for parties and playtime:

  • Living room

  • Basement

  • Covered carport

  • Garage

  • Backyard/lawn

  • Parks

  • Event center

  • Gymnasium

Set-Up Preparation for an Indoor Event

Please make sure:

  • Room is cleared of furniture and personal items

  • Floor is clean & dry

  • There is enough room to accommodate the entire playspace (please inquire for dimensions on specific packages), with extra room on each side to keep it safe.

  • There is a power source within 5 feet (if renting one of the Itty Bitty Bounce Houses & planning to set up indoors)

Set-Up Preparation for Outdoor Event

In order to properly set up the playspace, we require:

  • Set up area on grass, concrete, pavers, and wood or trex decks (not dirt, gravel, bark or sand).

  • Set up area is completely FLAT.

  • Grass is cut short.

  • Ground is dry (morning dew is unavoidable and fine). If in your own yard, please avoid turning on sprinklers for 24-hours before to ensure ground is solid. Excessive rain prior to the event may cause problems and an alternate space is encouraged.

  • Ground is clear from any debris and animal waste

  • Power source is within 5 feet (for bounce houses). Extension cords will not be used for safety reasons.

  • Enough room to accommodate the entire playspace (please inquire for dimensions on specific packages), with extra room on each side to keep it safe.

  • Any necessary permits or reservation requirements to be taken care of by the event organizer. Please reserve the space well in advantage to allow yourself enough time to complete their requirements.

If hot & sunny:

  • We highly recommend you secure a shaded spot or rent a tent canopy as the equipment can get hot to the touch, especially for little ones.

If rain/bad weather:

  • We highly recommend having a backup indoor location ready to go in case set-up needs to be moved. You can also rent a tent canopy for cases of light rain.

  • If you decide to cancel the event due to bad weather, we will give you a 12-month voucher to reschedule for another date.

Set-up & Takedown Procedure & Rules

  • We will arrive 1-2 hours before your party to set it up, depending on the size of your package.

  • Please have parking available near the entrance. We do charge an additional fee for obstructions such as stairs, far from parking, etc.

  • Event organizer or another point of contact needs to be on-site during set-up and take-down for any questions.

  • Kids are to be kept away from the area for both set-up and tear down so we can work safely and efficiently.

  • If renting a space, please account for set-up and take-down times in your rental.

  • After installation, we’ll review the rules and safety measures and then you’re all set for a day of fun!

  • We will take down the equipment 4 hours after your set start time, or you can add additional time with advance notice and an additional fee.

Playtime Rules

To ensure your guests remain safe during play, please review our post Bounce House & Soft Play Rules to Keep Guests Safe.

Bounce House & Soft Play Rules to Keep Guests Safe

We want you and your guests to have a fun, playful day together–without any unexpected ER visits! That’s why we have certain safety rules in place to keep both kids and adults injury-free, whether on our mobile soft playlands, our bounce houses, or any other rental equipment from Party Baby.

Safety Rules for Bounce House & Soft Play Rental

It is the responsibility of the person/s or organization hiring Party Baby LLC to ensure that all possible precautions are taken to avoid injury to people or damage to the soft play equipment.

Please ensure the following safety instructions are followed:

  • To avoid choking & slips: No food, drink or chewing gum on or around the soft play area. This will avoid any accidental risks and keep the equipment clean. (Please note if the equipment is collected in a dirty condition then the person hiring it will incur an excess cleaning charge.)

  • To avoid injury: No shoes, jewelry, loose objects in pockets, and/ or badges to avoid injury to people using the equipment and harm to the equipment.

  • To avoid slipping: No face paints, party poppers, colored streamers, or silly string to be used either on or near the soft play area. (Please note these products will cause damage to the equipment that cannot be repaired.). We strictly do not book with face paint/water play activities due to the high likelihood of possible damages to equipment and accidents in the play area.

  • To avoid falling: Climbing, hanging or sitting on safety gates or bounce house walls is dangerous and must not be allowed.

  • Supervision required: A responsible adult must supervise the soft play & bounce house equipment at all times. Parents are responsible for supervising their children, we do not stay on site for parties.

  • To avoid injury: No pets, outside toys, or any type of sharp instruments in the soft play area at any time.

  • For sanitation & safety: Socks must be worn on all playlands and bounce houses

  • To avoid injury: no rough housing on the equipment, and please adhere to the occupancy limits. Jumpers should exit the bounce house carefully, not jumping off to the ground.

You should also read our full site preparation and set-up rules here: How to Prepare Your Space for a Bounce House or Soft Play Package. This will help ensure that your yard or indoor space is ready for a safe installation of equipment–and there won’t be any last minute changes due to a poor location or unprepared area.

Please note that your bounce house or playland rental needs to be set up on a completely flat surface. If outside, consider placing it in the shade if it will be a hot day as the material can be hot to touch.

How to Put Safety First

The best way to keep your guests safe while playing on your rental equipment is to introduce the rules before play starts so there are no surprises and to set the expectation early of safe play. Here are some ways we recommend letting guests know about the safety rules:

  1. Inform guests of playtime rules before they start

  2. Always have a responsible adult observing playtime & reminding guests of rules

  3. Print out our safety rules and have them nearby in case of questions

How to Plan the Ultimate Toddler Birthday Party in Seattle

So you’re planning your toddler’s upcoming birthday party and want to make it as stress-free as possible. To which we say: good choice! We’re here to give you some advice from fellow parents who’ve been around the block before when it comes to hosting birthday parties for the littles.

How to Plan the Ultimate Toddler Birthday Party in Seattle

If you’re planning your first toddler birthday party with little friends (and their parents!), you may feel excited, nervous, or both. Let’s walk through a simple party planning checklist to make sure you have a fun, stress-free event.

Pre-Party Planning Checklist

Choose the date & time.

Presuming you’ll be looking at a Saturday or Sunday to host your party, the timeframe will be the next biggest factor. Consider the time of day that would work best for your age group. Typically morning parties from 9-noon work the best for toddlers so they can make it home for their afternoon naps (which we really don’t want them to miss, am I right?).

Send out invitations.

We recommend sending out invitations 2-3 weeks in advance, giving parents enough advance notice to plan and keep the day free, but not too much time that they misplace the invite and forget all about it.

Determine what food you’ll provide.

Consider how long your guests will be at the party, and whether you plan to serve snacks, a meal, or both. Depending on how long kids will be playing before a meal is served, it’s always a good idea to have some light, mess-free snacks (think Goldfish, applesauce pouches, or cheese sticks) on hand to keep little tummies happy until you’re ready to serve food.

Nail down the dessert.

Birthday cake and ice cream is classic, but you can also serve a different birthday dessert-like popsicles, donuts, or a candy bar. As with any food, make sure that whatever you serve is not a choking hazard and that kids with allergies or other special dietary needs have something fun to indulge in, too.

Create a loose timeline for the party.

Take some of the mystery out of the big day with a penciled-in timeline to keep things on track. Let’s imagine your party is from 9:30am-12:30pm, with lunch and cake provided. You may want to have an itinerary that includes a plan for the arrival of kids, activities, snacks, craft, lunch, gifts, dessert, and pick-up. You can always adjust the schedule of events during the party depending on what activities the kids are really enjoying.

Plan age-appropriate activities.

Depending on what kind of play, toys, or entertainment you have available during the party, you may want to plan for some group activities like games or crafts. Keep in mind the age group of your little guests to find something that isn’t too hard for them to partake in.

Buy or make decorations.

Some fun decorations will transform your space into something special for the big day. On our must-buy list is:

  • plastic tablecloths
  • themed paper plates, cups & napkins
  • streamers
  • balloons
  • signs (can also be made in Canva[1] )

Day-of Party Checklist

  • Prepare and set-up food
  • Decorate
  • Hang up signs
  • Prep activities + supplies
  • Welcome guests
  • Keep an eye on your timeline
  • Ask little ones if they need to use the bathroom (trust us on this one!)
  • Have fun!

4 Health Benefits of Soft Play Equipment for Toddlers

You may be surprised to learn just how beneficial a mobile soft play rental is to your toddler’s development!

But first, what is soft play?

Mobile soft play equipment or soft play rentals are just like they sound–soft and irresistibly fun play set-ups for little kids to keep them occupied for hours, whether inside your own home or out in the backyard. Playpens typically include some or all of the following fun activities:

● Ball pits

● Rubber animals

● Tunnels

● Climbing sets

● Inflatables

● And more!

If you’re looking for some more information about soft play equipment, check out this related post: 5 Reasons Soft Play Rentals Are Becoming So Popular in Seattle.

4 Health Benefits of Soft Play Equipment for Toddlers

1. A safe place to explore.

As parents, keeping kids safe is our number one priority, and we all know this is especially difficult during the toddler years. Little tikes love to run, jump, and tumble, and daily life brings a host of scrapes and bruises. Most outdoor park playsets are designed for bigger kids, which either leaves little ones dependent on parents or taking risks, and, at times, getting injured.

Soft play rentals provide a safe, soft play area designed especially for toddlers to do all the things, with none of the injuries.

2. Improves gross & fine motor development.

Soft play equipment gives toddlers the opportunity to practice a variety of motor development skills.

Gross motor activities developed during soft play include:

● Running

● Jumping

● Crawling

● Throwing

● Kicking

● Climbing

Fine motor activities developed during soft play include:

● Pinching

● Grasping

● Sorting items

3. Improves social skills.

Soft play rentals are best enjoyed with friends! Kiddos can practice sharing, taking turns, and helping each other in any number of activities, such as the ball pit, inflatables, and bouncy riders. Because it’s a kids-only zone, children are encouraged to socialize and figure things out themselves, without adults intervening.

4. Cognitive growth and development.

Play is critical to a child’s cognitive growth because they’re free to experiment with objects and their bodies and overall figure out how things work. Playtime is a judgment-free time for them to imagine and get creative, helping them learn new ways to do things and gain confidence.

5. Indoor or outdoor play.

Clients love that they can book a mobile play set-up and, whether it’s rain or shine, the party will go on! Our mobile play pen can easily be set-up outside on flat ground or, in the frequent chance of rain here in Seattle, inside the home in your living room.

As you can see, playtime is both fun and healthy! If you’re looking for more kids party inspiration, visit us on Instagram @partybabyseattle.

5 Reasons Soft Play Rentals Are Becoming So Popular in Seattle

Maybe you’ve been hearing about soft play rentals on Instagram or have no idea what it is but know you want to learn more. You’re in the right place!

● And more!

1. Delivered to your door.

Mobile soft play rentals keep it easy for families with little ones to have fun. No need to pack up all the kiddos and travel to a playland or park. The fun is literally delivered right to the door. Plus, the homeowner has no set-up or take-down to do, we do it all.

2. Good clean fun.

We all want our kids to play in a safe, clean space. Unlike visiting a public play area which may be cleaned daily, our mobile play equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each use to ensure your children aren’t exposed to any germs. Private play parties are great for families that need to be extra cautious with exposure.

3. Entertain without interruption.

If you have an upcoming special event at your home and want to keep the little ones busy, a soft play rental is the way to go. Whether it’s a 2-year-old birthday party, a large family get-together, or an adult dinner party, your littlest guests will be safely occupied for the afternoon. Be warned: your adults will want to stand around and watch the play pen because it’s that fun!

4. Kids sleep great.

At the end of the day, every parent wants a tired kiddo who is ready for a solid night’s sleep. A soft play set-up will give them hours of full-physical entertainment to run, kick, jump, crawl, hop, and roll. You may get tired just watching them!

5. Indoor or outdoor play.

Clients love that they can book a mobile play set-up and, whether it’s rain or shine, the party will go on! Our mobile play pen can easily be set-up outside on flat ground or, in the frequent chance of rain here in Seattle, inside the home in your living room.
